DO NOT PLAY ON POKER STARS!
Tuesday, June 3, 2008
The Indian Chief proclaims, 'So, you are the great Lone Ranger. In honor of the Harvest Festival, you will be executed in three days. But, before I kill you, I will grant you three requests. What is your first request?'
The Lone Ranger responds, 'I'd like to speak to my horse.
'The Chief nods and Silver is brought before the Lone Ranger, who whispers in Silver's ear, and the horse gallops away. Later that evening, Silver returns with a beautiful blonde woman on his back.
As the Indian Chief watches, the blonde enters the Lone Ranger's tent and spends the night. The next morning the Indian Chief admits he's impressed.'You have a very fine and loyal horse, but I will still kill you in two days.
What is your second request?
'The Lone Ranger again asks to speak to his horse. Silver is brought to him, and once again he whispers in the horse's ear. As before, Silver takes off across the plains and disappears over the horizon.Later that evening, to the Chief's surprise, Silver again returns, this time with a brunette, even more attractive than the blonde. She enters the Lone Ranger's tent and also spends the night. The following morning the Indian Chief is again impressed. He tells the Lone Ranger, 'You are indeed a man of many talents, but I still kill you tomorrow.
'So what is your last request?'
The Lone Ranger responds, 'I'd like to speak to my horse.... alone.'The Chief is curious, but he agrees and Silver is brought to the Lone Ranger's tent.
Once they're alone, the Lone Ranger grabs Silver by both ears, looks him square in the eye and says:'Listen very carefully you dumb ass horse.
' 'For the last time . . . BRING POSSEEEE!'

Jay Bird THREE PEAT!
As I have stated in the past I knew this tournament fit Jay Birds "NO CHOP!" style of play! Jay is officially on my DANGER list. He has proved that he only need "a chip and a chair" to win. This is his 3 rd tournament win in 7 weeks, and all 3 times he went in WITH OUT the chip lead. Donk-Dan finished 2nd last night and Jay felt justice was served after his prior heads up all in with JJ lost to 78. On his final all in against Dan, he won with a suck out straight draw.
Here's to you Jay, thanks for bouncing me out on the bubble! Congrats on your "NO CHOP" win, it's always fun to watch!!!!

Tomorrow at 9:00am the doors open to the public. Today, after doing my radio interview schedule I had a chance to take a look at the Amazon room where the WSOP is held. There is something special about being in that room when it is completely empty- the calm before the storm. I looked around and envisioned the packed house and there was just something special about it.You all are going to absolutely love all of the hard work they have put into this year's WSOP. It's just incredible, and sometimes I just don't think people realize how big of a task running the WSOP is. I want to share with you some highlights from my snooping:
WSOP Structures- the PAC worked very hard on this year's structures and I give them my seal of approval. The limit events have been sped up a tiny bit early in favor of more play at the later stages.Buy in Options- whether you are on a big bankroll looking for bigger buy in events, or a low roller looking to grind on the smaller circuit, there are plenty of tournaments to satisfy everyone.
New $10,000 buy in championship events could become something really special.Satellite Room- there is a separate room outside of the Amazon (not in a tent, but in one of the other convention rooms) dedicated to satellites. There is also a dedicated cage for satellite players only inside of that room.No Tent- there will be no poker played in a tent this year. All tables are indoors.
Aces Club Lounge and Game Room- for $2500 players had the opportunity to receive access to both a lounge as well as a game room equipped with a pool table, golf simulator, etc. so I'm told. I didn't not actually see the game room. Before people scream "More money for Harrah's!" they should understand that the money goes toward charity. In fact, last year's VIP definitely cost Harrah's money. Unfortunately, I think all of the VIP packages have now been sold out.
Sushi and Noodle Bar- you are not going to believe where they put this! Let's just say it's very close to the poker tournament area, is essentially a sit down, first come first serve restaurant that I'm sure is going to be packed.Food Area-remember the tent? Well, the food area takes over there and is very spacious. Also, it's not a tent. It's a much more stable construction with better circulation.
Registration Room-remember the hectic lines leading into the Amazon room? Well, there is now a completely separate room solely dedicated to tournament registration. Probably the greatest change to the set up for this year's WSOP is the usage of space. Things are well spread out which should help in dealing with congestion issues in years past.
Color Coded Time Clocks-remember last year looking over at a tournament clock and not having a clue what tournament it's for? Well, this year the clocks will be color coded. So if you are in, say, the $1500 NL your clock may be purple, and if you are in the $2500 Omaha 8 it might be blue. Also, there are plasmas everywhere so you should never be in a spot where you can't see one. Lastly, the table breaking order will also be posted on these clocks!
Elevated Media Area- There is an elevated area for bloggers and media to cover the tournament. This is going to help make their job easier as they should be able to survey the whole room from where they are. Plus, while they are working they are out of the way.
Dedicated cashier for live games- There is a section for cash games, and those players will have a dedicated cashier cage just for cash games.Four High Limit Cash Tables- in the interest of privacy for high limit players, there are four tables set up with borders to it so that people can't look at your cards before you do!
More Food Options in More Spots- I already mentioned the Sushi bar being close by, but there also appear to be more fast food options for those interested. I saw a Pizza Hut stand, a Krispy Creme, and a coffee shop right outside the poker room.
Guys, it's incredible. Seriously incredible. I'm not one to throw around praise when it's unwarranted, but in this case, it's warranted. From what I can tell, all bases appear to be covered. With such a huge task I imagine something may have been left out, but from what I can tell, this year's WSOP is shaping up to be the best WSOP ever. Wait until you see what I'm talking about. If you don't think the place looks great and is a huge improvement over last year, and year's before... I'll give you $1. Oh, and no lying!Good luck to everyone at this year's WSOP, I can't wait to play!

Eddie S...Story Time
A new weekly feature at Toby's Poker pages for every ones enjoyment....Eddie S. Story Time....As remembered by Tumba..
Eddie (slight NY accent): So me and my buddies are going out to the Hamptons back in the 80's, now mind you this is not the Hamptons as it's known today, in other words the place we
used to stay at was such a dump we had to break into the neighbors to .... be with a girl if you know what I'm sayin.
So, one of our buddies only had one good leg and a fake leg, and he would take it off every night when he went to bed. This kid lost his leg due to a doctor put a cast on too tight when he was a kid..so he lost his leg cause it killed it what ever what ever....so any way this kid (the one with one leg) was a good lookin dude used to get alot of girls....
So one night we are going out and we decide to take his leg and trow it on the roof....no he's hoppin around all like "where's my leg...where's my leg?" so we decide to pretend that we are leaving him, so now he's hoppin around lookin for his leg and we are pulling out to enjoy the evening.
Long story short one leg finds out his leg is on the roof and calls the maintenance guy to get him a ladder...naturally maintenance guy thinks he's ****in with him, finally he comes over and sees on leg is telling the truth, so we come back for one leg and maintenance guy goes the **** off on us on how can we do this to a cripple his leg is on the roof, this guy was pissed...so we had to tell him, this guy (one leg) is going to get more girls than all of us....we don't treat him like a cripple, he's just one of the boys!
What did I learn from this story? Treat a cripple like a person, cause he's a person.
Now you know...and knowing is half the battle.
Next week's story.....Eddie....a strip club....a tampon...and some bullets, oh yeah and broken glass.
A new game to play on the golf course
Pros Duke It Out on the Greens in a Poker-Like Golf Competition
It seems that golf, poker, and gambling continue to cross paths, and the World Series of Golf is a product of that. The second-annual event began Monday at the Paiute Golf Resort in Las Vegas, and the original 80 players are now down to 20.
A few poker pros who have already been sent packing are Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, and Chris Ferguson. A few who are still in contention for the $250,000 first-place prize are Erick Lindgren, Allen Cunningham, comedian Ray Romano, and last year’s second-place finisher Rhett Butler.
In this unique format, players compete in fours until one has eliminated the other three. All four begin with same starting stack of chips. At the beginning of each hole, players ante and then wager on each shot. For example, players can go all-in after a tee-shot that lands on the green, or fold and move on to the next hole if they are in the trees. The player with the fewest strokes from each hole wins the pot for that hole.
CBS recently cemented a multi-year deal with organizers to air the event on the network. This year’s World Series of Golf is scheduled to run on June 28-29.
Last year, of the 60 amateur golfers, it was Mark Ewing who won the inaugural event held at the Mirage Hotel and Casino. The 31-year-old day-trader from Newport Beach took home $250,000. Unfortunately for Ewing, he has already been knocked out of this year’s running.

Worst Poker Night of my life......
They say in poker you never remember the all the good wins and suck-outs you make but ask a player about his bad beats and he can tell you many of them. What if you experience 10 of them in one night. Just makes you wanna cry and wonder what you did to make the poker gods mad at you.
My night at Pompano 5/19/08
I get there at 6:00 to play in the $120 multi. I have 1/2 hour before the tournament starts so I sit at a 5/10 no limit game. I buy in for the $100 max. 3rd hand in I'm dealt A,4. I limp in along with 5 others ($50 in pot) Flop comes 2,3,5 rainbow. It checks to me I push all in for my remaining $50 with a flopped straight. The button player calls me and shows 4,7 suited. Turn card brings the 6 and I lose to a bigger staright. - $100
I re-buy another $100. I win a couple of pots and now have $180 in front of me. Under the gun player raises to $35. (by the way this player is one of the most beautiful woman I have ever seen play, and she plays very well. Doc referred to her as Nice Tits girl) I have 99 I call. Button player goes all in for $90. Nice Tits girl calls the $90, I call the $90. Flop comes J,9, rag. Nice tits girl bets $50 I move all in with my set of 9's. Nice tits girl call and shows pocket Jacks for a higher set and wins $500 pot. - $200
Its time for my tournament now so I go to play it. 15 minutes in Im in the big blind and I check a non raised pot with 9,8 off suit with 3 others in the pot. Flop comes 9h, 8d, 3h. Small blind checks I bet $600 with top 2 pair to get heart draws to fold and get 1 caller. Turn is no help so I push all in and get called with 3, 3. I never put him on a set. BUSTED -$325
I buy into a 2/5 game now for $100. I quickly double up to $200 when the donkey at the table (Isrealy guy I will call him) calls my AK all in raise with 10,J and I hit an A. A little while later a player makes it $50, Isrealy guy calls the $50, I look down at KK and shove all in. Original better calls for his remaining $40 or so and Isrealy guy calls and has me covered by $20. Noone shows thier cards and board comes out something like 10, 6, 3, 9, 4 on river. I show my Kings thinking IM the winner, Isrealy guy shows 2,5 suited to make a straigh and take down the $500+ pot. -$425
IM thinking to myself this is exactly the player I want at my table so I re-buy back in for another $100. Like the 3rd hand after. The pot is raised to $30 and there is 1 caller. I look down at AK so I push all in for $100. The original better calls me and the next guy folds and shows his pocket 5's. We both show our cards and I have him dominated my AK off suit against his AQ diamonds. Flop comes 3 rags with 1 diamond and IM sure you know the ending to this story. runner, runner diamonds for a flush. Another $250+ lost -$525
I havent been beat up enough so I buy in for another $100. For the next hour and a half I play perfect poker. (Not that I think I made any mistakes on any of the post I lost previously) I built my stack up to about $350. Isrealy guy is still at the table and after I almost took all his money but he now has well over $1000 in front of him. Under the gun player Andy (hes a driver at pompano) raises to $50, Isrealy guy calls the $50. I look down at KK and shove all in. (sound familiar... if not see above) Andy calls with about $130 more and Isrealy guy says hes now priced in and calls my $350. I show KK, Andy shows AK and Isrealy guy shows A10. Flop comes 3 rags, turn a 10, river a 10. Isrealy guy takes $900+ pot and I walk away from table in disgust. -$625
I walk around the casino to find someone to tell all my bad beats to when I see Anthony, Eidelberg and Tommy all still in the tournament. I sit at a 5/10 table next to them so I can watch them and play at the same time. I buy in for $100. Very loose table I can see from the start and I quickly notice that Kenny Tran is at the table. You dont ever expect to see one of the best players in the world at a $100 buy in cash game but there he was. Not too many hands in player raises to $40. 2 callers and I look down at 10.10. I just call. Flop comes J, 10, 5. Original better goes all in for his remaining $80 or so. I go all in for my remaining $60 and we get another caller. I show my set of 10's, Second caller shows his AJ third player doesnt show. Turn is a blank and river is a K. Third player is now happy to show his Poket Kings and wins a $400+ pot. -$725
I re-buy in for everything left in my pocket $93. Now Kenny Tran has moved to a seat next to me so he can have a better view of the Spurs basketball game because he has a $22,000 bet on the Spurs. I go on a nice run of cards building my stack to approx $300. Next hand player under the gun raises to $30. Every player calls the $30 and on the button I look down at 6 clubs, 7 clubs and make the $30 call. Small blind calls and of course Kenny calls. Family pot of $300 preflop. Flop comes 7 Diamonds, 6 Spades, 3 Diamonds. Everyone checks to me on the button and I move all in for $270 into a $300 pot with top 2 pair because of the flush draw out there. Kenny looks at me and says I know your on the flush draw and calls my all in for about $250 he had in front of him. I show top 2 pair and he says SHIT I guess I misread you and shows 7, 8 of hearts. Of course this blog wouldnt be written unless Kenny spiked and 8 on the turn to take down a $900 pot. -$818
Now I did something I have NEVER done in my life. I asked Tommy first if he could loan me $200. He was broke. I then asked Anthony who was at the final table of the tournament and he told me "Dude your asking the wrong guy". The came along Doc who said yeah but needed get money from Eidelberg first. I think Doc borrowed money from Eidelberg to lend me since he knew he was getting paid for having a piece of Anthony in the tournament and Anthony was already guaranteed $1100. Something like that. Either way I now had 2 fresh Franklins.
This part you would only believe if you saw it and many did see it. I re-buy for $100. Pot is raised to $35 with 2 callers. I look down at QQ. I push all in for my $100. Orginal raiser call me and shows AA . -$918
I re-buy for $100. Very next hand after the QQ. Theres a $20 stadle on board. 1 caller and I look down at QQ again. I push all in for $100 and Kenny says "Damn you have pocket queens again" . I answer "Yup lets see if they hold up this time." Everyone folds and with 1 player to go before I take down the pot the guy who had called the pot calls me and shows KJ. Of course the Mother F'er catches a King. Time to go home and cry. -$1018
If I hurry up and get all my work done I can be back there by 5;30. :-)

This week was all about Tommy! First he wins the Wednesday night satellite to the Battle for The Season Pass, but then he goes to bed, just to wake up a few hours later and win the Thursday night TOC event! I would say the event was pretty mild mannered for the most part, Congrats to Tommy for Qualifying and winning two separate tournaments back to back!

The NEW WSOP Main Event....50k H.O.R.S.E. tournament
While they have done just about everything wrong since 2004, they have managed to get something right. The 50k H.O.R.S.E. event named in honor of Chip Reese, who was the first winner of the event title in 2006. This event should be looked at as the new "Main Event" for obvious reasons. In case the obvious escapes you (as it does many others) here are some reasons why the H.O.R.S.E. event should be viewed as the MAIN EVENT:
- 50k buy in, not your stock 10k...Lets face it 10k was a lot of money when the wsop was started, but now a days with all the satellites it is an easily attainable entry for many people, which in turn "waters down" the skill level. In other words it makes it more likely you will run into the guy from Po-dunk who qualified online with his 56k connection on a whim that will call your all in with 3,8 of diamonds and after he wins announces...I made the correct play they where suited, why yes this is my first time to Vegas...they even put a toilet in my room! Magine that a toilet in my Hotel Room Faaaannncy! You won't find him in the H.O.R.S.E. event.
- H.O.R.S.E. is comprised of 5 different Poker games: Hold'em, Omaha hi/low, Razz, Stud, and Stud Eight. The fact that many players don't appreciate the nuances involved with No limit Texas hold'em (1 game) they have no prayer of understanding the subtleties involved with H.O.R.S.E. (5 separate games in one), hell I would be surprised if the vast majority of so called "poker players" even know how to play the other games. Point being skill takes over.
- Any Moron can call with any two cards in a No limit event and crack your Flawless play. You can do everything right and still lose. Not as prevalent in H.O.R.S.E., the long run will eat up the rookies every time.
- The event is named after a poker legend that we have lost too early Chip Reese. Chip Reese was the personification of Professional. Many pro's may aspire to be like him, but will fail. They will fail because he set the bar so high. I would still rather fail trying to accomplish what Chip did and more importantly how chip did it than be known as a "brat" or "ass" at the table. He was a true gentleman at the table, and asset to poker, and the best possible person to add some much needed history to the WSOP. It's time for players to appreciate the history of poker a little more, and time for the corporations to give us our game back. So you can keep your measly 10k buy in NL hold'em Moneymaker marketable bullshit, give me the H.O.R.S.E bracelet all day. The picture on the wall at Binions only ment something before 2001, after that it's laden with Donkies.

DOYLISM OF THE DAY: "To ignore the facts does not change the facts."
I read Daniel's blog and he is right about he and I having some heated emails back and forth about the upcoming Presidential election. At least we are both concerned about what is happening in the United States. He is 100% for Obama and while I am actually leaning that way myself, I get hot under the collar when anybody is totally adamant about controversial things. It is actually funny, and here is the last email between us until yesterday. Daniel had just called me a naive old man.
Daniel: Obama has accomplished 50 times more than Hillary in the Senate - in much less time. He, from the beginning, was against the war in Iraq - Hillary voted for it. He is by far the candidate that would change the world view of America. The less people that hate America the less enemies you create around the world. He has a lot of work to do cleaning up George W's mess.
Doyle: I don't want to continue these discussions because I think you are the naive one when you say things like this. Obama's record is a disaster and not anywhere close to Hillary, much less 50 times better. You are one hard-headed Canadian and won't change one idea when you think you are right. At least I look at both sides and say, "Well, maybe." I guess that is why you are an excellent poker player - you go with your gut. I often wondered where Todd came from. Now I know your parents had another baby boy and slipped him into the Brunson crib because you sound exactly like him.
Isn't that hilarious? We sound just like two college kids having a bull session. All I know is something had better happen in America in a hurry or we are going to have some hard times. $5 a gallon gasoline is just around the corner.
After going to the dentist and having three teeth filled, I came back home in time to bet on my next door neighbor, Lebron James as his Cleveland team took on the Boston Celtics. I took nine points and went over 179 and never came close on either bet. These NBA playoffs have been a nightmare for me. One thing for sure, I'm not betting against the Lakers anymore. Kobe Bryant is awesome. He may be better than Michael Jordan was and that's really saying something.
By the way, Daniel, as my son Todd told you, go back to Canada. You aren't even a USA Citizen! - DB

New WSOP Hiatus Good errr BAD?
You've just made the final table in July in the Main Event at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. You're one of nine players with a shot at millions. You're hot.
Now you have to wait until Nov. 9 for the next hand to be dealt.
No problem, says two-time Main Event champion Johnny Chan, who welcomes the WSOP's move to delay the final table to facilitate a Nov. 11 ESPN telecast within hours of the tournament's finish.
"Poker is a game of skill. The hands are random. … It's how you play your hand. I don't believe in hot streaks," Chan says.
Past final tables have been played in July, with ESPN airing its taped show in November.
Chan says the new format will allow players to connect with sponsors who "come to them and say, 'Hey, wear this patch or wear this logo. We'll give you X amount of dollars.' "
While poker pro Daniel Negreanu also applauds the timetable, he says it will make for a "different dynamic" at the final table. "You're going to see some really kind of more sophisticated play," he says.
The WSOP is a 55-event series of tournaments that begins May 30. ESPN will begin airing taped broadcasts of various events July 22. Negreanu expects players at the final table to monitor those.
"They're going to watch the ESPN broadcasts and go, 'Oh, did you notice that? When he does this, he's bluffing,' " Negreanu says.
He says players also can get coaching. He likens it to Super Bowl coaches getting two weeks to make a game plan: "Great players and amateurs alike will have an opportunity to really devise schemes and plans for how they're going to play."
In a news release issued by PokerStars, an online poker site, 2004 Main Event champion Greg Raymer says he is torn about the new format because of the potential for coaching.
"It might be huge for the continued growth of poker; however, the down side is this long gap allows the players to become completely different people between the time they make the final table and when they play it," says Raymer, a member of Team PokerStars.
For ESPN, there also will be a change in the dynamic. The title figures to be won in the early hours of Nov. 11, with the two-hour telecast of the final table set for 9 p.m. ET. "The champion will be crowned on the day of air. We're very excited about this change," ESPN senior producer Jamie Horowitz says.
ESPN will air a special Nov. 4 showing what the players have done between the July determination of the final nine and the final table.
"We want to detail that journey," Horowitz says.
What if something happens that precludes a player from playing at the final table? The WSOP has accounted for that. A player who does not appear will have his chips "blinded off," which means they will be paid into mandatory bets for each hand. When a competitor's last chip is played, he will be paid for where he finishes.
Two-time Main Event champion Doyle Brunson would prefer each player to be allowed an alternate, "somebody that's not considered to be a player with abilities above their own." Though Brunson, 74, has reservations about the delay being "overkill," he'd have no qualms about having to deal with it.
"No, I'll try to hang on another four months," he said, laughing.
Poker Tournament of Champions Roster (up to week4)
- JayBird (with an additional win gives him an extra 1,000 chips and narrows the field by 1 Player)
- Tony Mucci
- Eddie S
JayBird wins AGAIN!
On a side note I should apologize (probably won't) for my attitude during this particular event. I would like to think I learn something at each event I play big or small....What I learned here is don't play after being up for 72 hours with a screaming baby....because that will turn you into a screaming baby. I have to admit one of the funniest lines of the night came from Mike Goldfarb when he looked me dead in the eye and asked.....Are you on drugs?? Ya, it's called sleep deprivation!
I would be remiss if I didn't mention I knocked Tommy C out of this event with J,5 against his 9,9. when asked why I even played J,5 I said...because it's Tommy and I beat him last event with 10,8....sure enough I spiked my Jack and sent Tommy to the rail just before donating all my chips back AGAIN! I don't have the patience for these deep stack tourneys, so hang on long enough and you can HAVE MY STACK. Knocking out Tommy two tournaments in a row is better than winning anyhow.
Money finishes week 4:
1st place.......Jaybird (again)
2nd place......Vince
3rd place......Dean Di Meola

Eddie S stops Moosh from winning another one!
While the field was short, it had some talent. Spider was hoping to get into the actions as well, but no such luck, he had an appointment with Destiny at Vegas Cabaret......just to clarify it's not destiny in a cosmic sense, but the name of the dancer is "Destiny". Way to keep the University's filled with new students spider...they should start a scholarship in your name. How many "dancers" have you put through school Spider?
I do have to comment on 1 hand I thought was a statistical nightmare FloP: 10, 8, 5...Dean..88, Doc..1010 and Vince..55...All Three All in... the top set stood up... 3 sets on the flop and Deans pocket 8's go down in flames so he get's to go contribute to the Brett P (Spider) Scholarship fund.
I would like to extend my bet that Tony Mucci will win another birth into the final within the next 16 weeks. Any Takers?
BIG CONGRATS TO EDDIE S., I love to see Eddie do well in tournaments. The longer he lasts the more stories he tells, which I can later pass off as my own and impress my friends. Congrats Eddie especially for stopping the MOOSH.
On a side note, it seems as thought the reign of KING LEO has come to and end, is Moosh the new De facto King? Or will Leo return and try to qualify? Time will tell.

Week 1 JayBird
Week 2 Tony Mucci
Week 3 Eddie S

Poker Tournament of Champions Roster (so far)
1.) Jay Bird
Saturday, April 19, 2008
Our Week one champion is......
- Toby Sherman (who evidently has had enough of everyone saying he is too tight) cracks Dean Di Meola with a loose AK call against Pocket Kings...with only one over card and a prayer hits a four card straight (a,2,3,4,5) to knock Dean out.
- Toby Makes ANOTHER loose call (insta call in fact) with A 9 against Goldfarb who had A 7 to knock Goldy out....finally Toby's luck ran out when his pocket 6's went down to Jay's QQ. After asking Jay what he had Jay told Toby...I have two overs, and he didn't lie his QQ overs stood.
- Dave Pratt played his usual patient Cobra like game, waiting to strike and taking full advantage of his opportunities.
- Andrew played solid poker and learned quickly that Toby only tells the truth about his hand, but was able to best most of the field to make a strong finish at 3rd.
- Eddie took a cash game break to show up and get sent to the rail early to try and start a cash game.....some things never change.
- What I like most about the tournament structure is it must be played down to a winner. No chop can be accepted. The player that never chops (JayBird) fittingly took down the first event in the 20 week series.

Week 10 recap
Leo will have an edge turning all of those points into chips, but he still has to contend with the likes of Moosh, Iron MG, and of course Vince. Lets not forget about my sleeper pick for this tournament Tracy Rack.
As many of you know I have picked the winner pre tournament for each championship I have hosted. This one will be tough. I will let everyone know my pick thursday just before the event.
All about King LEO!

Thanksgiving Day interview with Dean DiMeola
Toby: How long have you played poker?
Dean: With the level of play at Colony West it has nothing to do with how long someone has played. My 6 year old could win…half of the players watch 2 episodes of poker on TV and think they are pro’s.
Toby: What about the other half?
Dean: They just suck
Toby: How do you feel about females at the poker table?
Dean: Other than them eyeing me up and down (they make me feel like a slab of meat)? When tips are discussed I'm not sure if they are referring to chips or ....you know. Speaking of chips I do seem to notice that a lot of chips hit the floor when they sit next to me. Coincidence? You make the call...
Toby: Do you feel any of the females can play at your skill level?
Dean: They may have some skill, but it sure as hell isn't poker. They should stick to cleaning or something they are good at. Bare foot and pregnant, not in a poker room. You know like your wife...fine example.
Toby: If you are the best then why is Leo in 1st place?
Dean: Anyone can wait for AA or KK...at the blind structure we play. This is to his (Leo aka Father Time) advantage. In a real blind structure he doesn't stand a chance against me. He is a D-O-N-K-E-Y with a capital D.
Toby: Other than yourself who do you feel is the best?
Dean: Everybody else is nothing.
Toby: It wouldn't be a stretch to state that many players don't like you...why?
Dean: Players don't like me because I am superior. You have to hate players that are just that much better than you are. In 20 years they may have a sliver of hope at beating me if they would practice everyday and I quit right now.
Toby: Lets do some word association.
T: Donkey D: Leo, T: Fish D: Goldfarb, T: Great D: Dean
Dean: That was easy.
Toby: Do you find it a burden to be as great as you see yourself?
Dean: Some people think that. I actually get bored at the table. When you have a gift like I do it's (the game of poker) so easy that it is tough to stay focused on that Golden Ring.
Toby: If you had to sponsor 1 woman to play in the WSOP who would it be?
Dean: I would rather dress Leo up and give him the money. Listen Toby, Women don't have the brain power to win a major tournament check that...to win any tournament. Women have smaller brains it's scientific fact...google it. They would be better off sitting at home playing go fish with the kids than coming here. Or better yet just give me the $60 and stay home.
Toby: How about you vs. a pro....say my favorite Dewey Tomko?
Dean: Dewey is all glitz, glamor, and TV time. Put him in a private room with me he doesn't stand a chance.
Toby: How about on the golf course
Dean: Are you joking? I would smoke him. How long does he hit it? 180 yds. with grease.
Toby: If you are so great why aren't you point leader?
Dean: Luck, all luck if I lose it's because someone got lucky. Plus it's no fun to just walk all over everyone at least I give them some shot.
Toby: The people that look up to you...how does that make you feel?
Dean: Dean feels like Dean is the same as everyone else, just one of the little people. Dean doesn't feel any different. Dean is just Dean.
Toby: Do you consider yourself a role model?
Dean: If people want to be like Dean, that's a good thing. If there where more Deans in the world it would be a better place, with happier women.
Toby: Thanks for your time Dean
Dean: GFY

Week 7 Recap
- King Leonidas (Leo) showed up to play (much to every ones surprise) even though his wife just delivered his baby only 3 days prior. Not sure if I am proud of him for showing or if I want to just label him "King Degenerate". At any rate much respect to Leo who explained to me that in order for me to fully grasp what his life is about, I need to wait until my 3 week old son AJ grows up and has a child, then I would have to have a child after his (AJ's) was born there by making my son older than my grandson, which would mean he would be an uncle of some sort.....at any rate Leo...you are "The King".
- Wow, a 3 way tie for second place in points. Iron Mike G, Hugh, and Jim G. Who (if anyone) can overtake King Leo?
- Moosh has 3rd place locked up. Lets not forget about Vince in at 4th place, they are all deadly, but who will finish at the top?
- Congrats again to Jim Giglia who played just about flawless wire to wire and was kind enough to broker a "fair and even" chop. Some other players in the league could stand to learn from Jim and Mike G when it comes to a fair chop!
I have to say on a side note, if I had to liken King Leo to an athlete, it would be Tom Brady, every week he shows up and performs like a champ...he comes to win!

Coral Springs Jaguars Booster Club 2k Event!

- Darren Goldstein
- Alicia Goldstein
- Jeff Milford
- John Lahue
There was no love lost at the table between Alicia and Darren, both players played solid poker, and both played to win (even if it ment Darren would end up sleeping on the couch for trying to knock Alicia out of the tournament). Jeff Milford seemed to bob and weave his way to third place with some help from the river, and John Lahue hung in until the blinds dictated his exit with a forced all in call.
Thank you to Melinda and Nancy for a great event, Migliori Restaruant for the $25 gift certificate, and last but not least NBP coach Rex Nottage for the entertainment.

Week 6 Recap
Speaking of Mike Goldfarb, he is not playing around. He wants to win and is showing it! He has SHOT up the point list and is nipping at Leo's heals. And he doesn't let Leo forget he missed two weeks.
Congrats to Gary Burr who took 1st place!
Jamie Bass is trying to make a liar out of me with a quiet early exit from the tournament. I stick to my original prognostication and I believe she will be a contender in the end! The other half of that contingent Tom V ended up with 21 points and finished on the bubble just before the final table. Hugh made a surprising exit next, and the rest is history.

Week 5 Recap
- Iron Mike G is dubbed "Horses ASS"
- Iron Mike G gives Toby a Poker Lesson
- Iron Mike G proves he's not a horses ass by making an equal chop
Dewey Tomko showed up to say hello
John A proves his mettle by winning back to back tournaments, whatever sickness he has I want.
Shocker Bob Sherman makes the money...Debra Giglia makes the money too.
Hugh played very well and picked up some crucial points.
Mike Goldfarb obviously has something to prove as he is burning up the point chart. I guess by Toby not picking him to be in the top 3... it has motivated him to do his best and regain title as Supreme Poker Overlord.
Tony Moosh is playing very solid poker.
Leo is still in 1st, but I have a feeling this could be his last week. Sorry Leo I call them like I see'em.
The Rack / Sherman contingent came to play!!!!

Anyone that wants to join us, ball is in the air at 2:30. $10 poker player special.
Dewey Tomko to play at Colony West!

For those of you that don't know who Dewey is (Shame on you):
Tomko is chiefly noted as the runner-up in the World Series of Poker "WSOP" $10,000 no limit hold'em main event in both 1982 (to Jack "Treetop" Straus) and 2001 (to Carlos Mortensen.)
Tomko began playing poker profitably as a 16-year-old in Pittsburgh pool halls which allowed him to finance his education. He worked as a kindergarten teacher, but often played poker through the night. Tomko realised that poker was more profitable than his job and invested a sum of his winnings into businesses while choosing to play poker full-time.
In addition to his WSOP success, Tomko has made two World Poker Tour (WPT) final tables. He finished runner-up in the 2003 Five Diamond World Poker Classic ($552,853) and in fourth place in the Costa Rica Classic ($14,650.)
Tomko has played every WSOP Main Event since 1974 which is currently the longest active streak.
Recently, Tomko took 3rd place in the 2005 WSOP Deuce to Seven Draw Lowball event worth $138,160.
Tomko is married with three children. His son Derek encouraged him to return to playing poker tournaments. (Tomko claims his son is a better player than he was at his age.)
As of 2007, his total live tournament winnings exceed $3,800,000.
Rick Reilly chronicles a day with Dewey on a golf course in his book Who's Your Caddy. In it, he contends that Tomko is not interested in competition if there is not a wager riding on it. Dewey is just as good a gambler on the golf course as he is sitting at a poker table. He notes that many PGA professionals will refuse to play him for money. On NBC's "Poker After Dark," Greg Raymer noted that pro golfer Rocco Mediate has said that if he had one person to putt for his life, it would be Tomko.
Colony West Welcomes FAU "Poker Crew"

The FAU representation was in full force as John, Moises, Felix, Jesse, and Ian came to do battle at the Poker tables. The only player missing from the FAU equation was Gio, who sources say was busy puking again....poor Gio...you where missed..not really...ok maybe a little bit by Leo.
Anyway Ian ended up outlasting the rest of the crew and had a strong finish at 2nd place with his A,3 all in. Moises played really really well for like 10 min. then became bored and started watching/analyzing college football on the TV. I think the rest of the group ended up at the Bar trying to figure out who won the Heisman trophy back in '94 when they where in first grade....it was Gino Teretta by the way..."The U". Nice effort by the drinking team anyway.
At any rate the "FAU Crew" earned the respect of the old school and new school rounders at CW, and we look forward to seeing them in the future.

U.S. PokerBowl to Kick Off at Bally's Casino in Vegas
http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-news/article/9856/u-s-pokerbowl-to-kick-off-at-ballys-casino-in-vegas
Week 2 Recap
Highlights:
- Moosh complained about the bad cards so much he finished 2nd.
- Tom V made a more than respectable finish with Monty Python humor included making him a fan favorite.
- Debra Gilgi proves that Jim is not the only great card player in that family, actually he's really only considered a real good player Debra has elevated the Giglia status to "Great".
- Hugh played steady right into 3rd place
- Darius was a hard on himself but had a good finish
- Jerry A....Jerry A.....big Jerry.....no comment
Last but certainly NOT LEAST our week 2 Champion JAIME BASS, this new comer to the tournament demonstrated that she was a "player" executing the old school Colony Rounders one by one like she owned the place. Showing no mercy to Tom on her way to the top... she will be a tough competitor this year.
Toby is going to predict Jaime will be top 5 in points at the end of the series, if not number 1.
As most of you know I have picked the winner in every Championship event we have had with our Point Series....this years first two contenders are: Vince G and of course Jaime B.
Thank you to everyone for showing up.... we will see you next week!
PS ... Good luck to Rich who will be in the Bahamas

- Vince was a hair faster than usual, but came with a new swagger.....yes I said "swagger" and Vince in the same sentence.
- Leo did his usual....insult someone....apologize...win a pot so on and so on.
- Jim Pap's horseshoe was firmly implanted
- Jim Pap made a new best friend in Bill Benson, not sure if the feeling was mutual
